Reiner is a South African habitat specialist.He has expertise in botany and zoology.Reinie’s research focuses on  threatened butterfly species, integrated conservation frameworks, quantitative estimates of butterfly assemblages and vegetation dynamics.He has published extensively in the fields of taxonomy and ecology in popular journals, peer-reviewed scientific journals and as co-author and co-editor of books. Reinier presented several oral papers locally and internationally.Reiner has over 10 years experience in lecturing zoology related courses.He lectured at the North West University, Potchefstroom Campus (1998-2008).He is also a registered Professional Natural Scientist and also an ecological consultant practitioner.In 2015 he received a Best Poster Award at Oppenheimer De Beers Group Research Conference 2015, Johannesburg.In 2018 Reiner was a speaker in various conferences including: Oppenheimer De Beers Group Research Conference and Lepidopterists’s Society of Africa in September 2018. He also gave a special lecture at Everard Read Gallery, Rosebank for the Botanical Art Worldwide exhibition.
