John Mason is the executive director of the Nature Conservation Resource Centre in Ghana, an organization he founded in 1995. NCRC focuses on rural tourism development that is rooted in the premise that conservation will be effective when communities affected by it receive tangible economic and cultural returns. A Canadian citizen schooled in Nigeria, John has worked in West Africa for more than 30 years. He is a member of the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility and a pioneer in developing the model of Community Resource Management Areas, which deliver community benefits through conservation.
