WILDeconomy Masterclass

ALU School of Wildlife Conservation is an AndBeyond Coalition partner and together we organise, host and facilitate WILDEconomy Masterclasses.

The founding concept behind the &BEYOND WILDeconomy Masterclass, in partnership with African Leadership University, is to bring together a gathering of diverse minds and perspectives in an immersive learning experience, to unpack and discover how a wildlife safari ultimately fits into the bigger picture of a thriving Wildlife Economy in Africa, and specifically sustainable tourism.

In 2022, the first &BEYOND WILDeconomy Masterclass itinerary, in partnership with ALU, and hosted by Dr Sue Snyman, took place against the backdrop of the iconic Serengeti and Masai Mara reserves.

For over 30 years, the &BEYOND business model has been premised on the understanding that for conservation to be successful and sustainable, it has to benefit the communities that surround Africa’s wildlife reserves.

As they move into our next decade of scaled impact, conservation-driven coalitions such as this will stimulate fresh perspectives and inspire sustainable shared-value opportunities for rural communities.

The second WILDEconomy Masterclass took place at Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa in March 2024.

Amongst other topics, the WILDeconomy Masterclasses unpack the role and contribution of the Wildlife Economy in Africa. Tapping into research conducted by African Leadership University, the immersive itineraries revolve around the following five key economic activities: ecotourism, wildlife ranching, hunting and fishing, carbon market and forest products.
