About the Series

As an integral part of ALU's wildlife economy research project, our Lessons Learned Series is a repository of case study examples illustrating diverse wildlife economy activities across Africa. These case studies delve into the institutional arrangements, economic impacts, social dynamics, environmental considerations, enabling conditions, challenges, and opportunities associated with each activity. Our goal is to provide valuable insights and recommendations for informed policy and practice in the field.

The series encompasses a broad spectrum of wildlife economy practices, including but not limited to ecotourism, hunting, wildlife ranching, forest products, carbon projects, and various innovations. We also explore mixed-use agro-ecological examples to offer a comprehensive understanding of wildlife economies.

While SOWC initiates and develops some of the case studies, we actively seek collaboration with partners to contribute and publish their own exemplary cases. This collaborative approach ensures a diverse and well-rounded collection that reflects the richness of wildlife economy initiatives across the continent.
